I got really worried this weekend when my phone died and I didn’t have any of my pictures backed up. Obviously I can always go back and take pictures of the finished murals, but I was worried my progress shots of Living Walls 2014 were gone forever. Fortunately I was able to copy phone files to the computer and continue blogging!
I first saw Tanner Wilson‘s art randomly on a bike ride out to Adair Park where I could see the top of his mural on Rancho Buck auction house from Murphy Ave and investigated closer for a further look. After a small amount of research I found Tanner’s instagram to match the mural with the artist. Tanner was born in Indiana and through the influence of hardcore shows, tattoos and graffiti he began designing album art and clothing for local bands in the Midwest. After graduating from the University of St Francis, School of Creative Arts with a BA in Communication Arts and Graphic Design, Tanner moved to Atlanta where he currently lives and works as a freelance graphic designer. Tanner volunteers with Living Walls as a graphic designer and his first mural in Adair Park was a practice mural for his Living Walls 2014 mural in Bankhead. I first met Tanner at the Living Walls artist assistant meet and greet and had the opportunity to work with him out on his wall in Bankhead. The wall he painted was originally being saved as a potential wall for the Trek Matthews/Xuan Alyfe collaboration, but when Tanner’s wall in East Atlanta fell through due to the wall owners feeling that his colors were “too angry” the easiest thing to do was to give him the Bankhead wall.
